This Privacy Policy describes how Mimir (“we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our browser extension (the “Extension”) and related website (the “Site”).
1. Information We Collect
- Local Data Storage: We store only your explicit preferences (e.g., selected theme, last-used tool) and your recent tool results in your browser’s local storage (
chrome.storage.local). This data never leaves your device unless you choose to share it manually. - Active Tab Data: With your permission, Mimir reads text you select on a webpage when you invoke a tool via the toolbar button or right-click context menu. This selected text is sent to our servers only to perform the requested AI operation (e.g., summarization, translation) and is not stored permanently.
- Anonymous Usage Metrics (Optional): If you opt in, we may collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of times you use each feature) to improve performance. No personally identifiable information is collected.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Provide Core Functionality: Your selected text is sent to our backend API solely to generate the AI-driven output you requested. We do not use it for any other purpose.
- Save Preferences: Your theme choice, feature toggles, and cached results are stored locally to improve load times and maintain your settings between sessions.
- Improve the Product: With your consent, aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us understand feature popularity and stability.
3. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We may share non-identifying, aggregate metrics with partners or publicly (e.g., “X% of users prefer the Dark Blue theme”). We comply with valid legal requests (e.g., court orders) but will challenge overly broad or abusive demands.
4. Third-Party Services
- OpenAI API: We use the OpenAI API to power AI operations. The text you send is processed by OpenAI’s servers under their privacy policy, but Mimir does not store that text after the operation completes.
- Hosting & Analytics: Our backend is hosted on Vercel, which may collect basic server logs (IP addresses, timestamps). We evaluate and delete logs regularly to minimize retention.
5. Security
- We never embed remote scripts or use
eval()in the Extension. All code runs locally or is packaged within the Extension. - We enforce strict Content Security Policy (CSP) to prevent unauthorized code execution.
- We use HTTPS/TLS for all communications between the Extension and our backend.
6. Your Choices
- Permissions: You can revoke permissions (e.g.,
<all_urls>,activeTab) in your browser’s Extensions settings at any time, which will disable Mimir’s in-page features. - Opt-Out: You may disable anonymous usage analytics in the Settings page of the Extension.
- Data Deletion: To clear local storage (preferences, cached results), click “Reset to Defaults” in the Extension’s Settings.
7. Children’s Privacy
Mimir is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent changes. We encourage you to review this policy regularly.
